Special Containment Procedures:
SCPA-EN-00172 is contained within a spherical chamber with a radius of 15 meters. The chamber is constructed of reinforced steel and lead, with an airlock for personnel entry and exit. The containment chamber is equipped with several observation ports for monitoring SCPA-00172.

After initial experimentation, it has been determined that SCPA-EN-00172 is unable to escape its containment. However, it is important to note that if SCPA-EN-00172 is to ever breach containment, all personnel are to evacuate immediately and the area is to be secured immediately.

Description:
SCPA-EN-00172 is an anomalous phenomenon consisting of what appears to be a shadow-like entity that exists within any shadow present in its environment. SCPA-EN-00172 is unable to manifest beyond the boundaries of a shadow, such as in direct sunlight.

SCPA-EN-00172 exhibits hostile behavior toward organic life forms, specifically humans. SCPA-EN-00172 has been observed to "spread" to adjacent shadows and merge with other SCPA-EN-00172 instances. SCPA-EN-00172 has been known to "consume" shadows, effectively removing them from its environment.

SCPA-EN-00172 is attracted to sound, and will actively seek out sources of audio within its environment. SCPA-EN-00172 will attempt to move all shadowy areas, in order to envelop or absorb them. SCPA-EN-00172 emits complex whispering noises, which have proven capable of inducing a hypnotic state in subjects, causing the listener to stare intently at the shadow being manipulated by SCPA-EN-00172.

Additional Information:
SCPA-EN-00172 can be destroyed once it has consumed enough shadows to become overburdened, at which point it will dissipate. Engaging in aggressive behavior towards SCPA-EN-00172 has resulted in its "spreading" to other shadows at an accelerated rate, making such behavior forbidden in the presence of SCPA-EN-00172.

Anecdotal reports from personnel who have been exposed to SCPA-EN-00172 have noted hallucinations of dark figures in their peripheral vision, particularly in low light conditions.
